Samuel Jardine

Head of Research, London Politica

Sam is London Politica’s Head of Research, responsible for organising and leading the Research Department. He also founded and previously directed LP’s “Geopolitics on the Periphery” programme covering the Arctic, Antarctic, space and the seabed.

Outside of London Politica Sam is a Consultant for RUSI’s Defence, Industries and Society programme, formally here as was also a RUSI Military Sciences “Rising Stars” thought leadership programme Mentee. He is also a Research Associate for the Climate & (In)Security Project (CCIP), a collaboration between Oxford University and the British Army's think tank- The Centre for Historical Analysis and Conflict Research (CHACR). CCIP seeks to enhance understanding of climate change’s impact on national, human, and geopolitical security and advise how to mitigate or respond and communicate these insights to parliamentarians, policy-makers, and practitioners and supports the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Climate and Security. Sam is also a Policy Specialist for the Lunar Policy Platform (LPP) a global non-profit that facilitates consensus within the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) and supports the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) by creating dialogues with all stakeholders in the global space sector.

Samuel is also a Fellow with the Foresight Institute, and current Affiliate and 2023 Research Fellow of the Open Lunar Foundation. Additionally, he is a Senior Advisor at Luminint, a geopolitical risk intelligence firm, and a Strategic Advisor for the GORSTRA Research Group, a human rights think tank. He is also an Analyst specialising in the Arctic, Antarctic, Space and the Seabed, for Rosa & Roubini Associates, a macroeconomic and geopolitical consultancy.

Previously Sam was the Project Manager for Lord Kerslake’s ross-bench Independent Commission into UK Military Accommodation, a Research Fellow with the Center for Space Governance, and a Fellow of the Arctic Institute, Ecologic Institute and MiH-RCN-hosted Arctic Geopolitical Programme as a member of its Militarisation and National Security Working Group. Sam holds an MA in Modern History from King's College London, and a BA (Hons) in History from the Open University.

His research interests pertain to the geopolitics, policy, and security of space, the Polar regions, “Global Britain”, and the Indo-Pacific with a particular focus on grand strategy, multipolar competition, governance, defence and security, climate conflict, and mineral politics.

Samuel has a growing list of public engagements, lectures, and media interviews; including being invited to lecture at the Royal College of Defence Studies, and the Royal Navy Strategic Studies Centre; alongside talks at RUSI, UK Government policy roundtables, including at HMS President and Wilton Parks, and interviews with Voice of America and AL24. He has numerous publications across academic journals and analytical platforms, including with Routledge. He previously founded and ran his own History talks company, delivering "Applied History"-centric tours to both academic and public audiences and was a geopolitical risk consultant.
