Samuel Jardine

Head of Research, London Politica

Samuel is London Politica’s Head of Research, responsible for organising and leading the Research Department and London Politica’s research pipeline.

He is an experienced geopolitics consultant with a focus on strategic competition and governance, particularly in space, the Polar regions, and the seabed. His expertise has been recognized through numerous invitations to provide insight at high-profile events, including the 2024 UN Conference on Sustainable Lunar Activities and UNCOPUOS’ 67th Plenary. Samuel has also guest lectured at the Royal College of Defence Studies, the Royal Navy Strategic Studies Centre, and the Royal United Services Institute. Additionally, he has been invited to participate in UK Government policy roundtables including at Wilton Park and HMS President. His insights are frequently sought by media outlets such as Voice of America and AL24, and he has been published by Routledge.

Outside of London Politica, Samuel serves as a Senior Advisor for Luminint, a Strategic Advisor for GORSTRA, and a Research Associate for the Climate & (In)Security Project (CCIP) a collaboration between Oxford University and the British Army's think tank- the Centre for Historical Analysis and Conflict Research (CHACR) supporting the All Party Parliamentary Group for Climate and Security. He also freelances as a Consultant for RUSI’s Defence, Industries and Society programme and Mabway, providing expertise in policy, geopolitics, and human-terrain-related issues for UK Armed Forces warfighting and sub-threshold exercises. Additionally, he is a Policy Specialist for the Lunar Policy Platform, a think tank supporting the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) by convening and fostering bilateral and confidential dialogues between all stakeholders in the global space sector, and a Researcher and is also the Project Lead for the Open Lunar Foundation’s Lunar Objects and Activities Registry. Samuel is a Fellow of the Foresight Institute and a Research Affiliate with the Centre for Space Governance, as well as a specialist in space, Arctic, Antarctic, and seabed issues for Rosa and Roubini Associates.

Previously, Samuel managed Lord Kerslake’s independent cross-bench Commission into UK Military Accommodation and was a Research Fellow at both the Open Lunar Foundation and the Center for Space Governance. He was also a Fellow of the Arctic Institute, the Ecologic Institute, and the MiH-RCN-hosted Arctic Geopolitics Programme. Before 2020, Samuel founded and ran a History talks company, delivering "Applied History"-centric tours to academic and public audiences.

Sam holds an MA in Modern History from King's College London and a BA (Hons) in History from the Open University. He was a 2022 RUSI Military Sciences “Rising Stars” Thought Leadership Mentee.
