Georgia’s EU Dream: Candidate Status and Trajectory One Year Later


Summary

Georgia obtained its candidacy status for membership of the European Union on 14th December 2023, bringing it closer on its path of joining the bloc. As a part of its requirements for Georgia’s accession process, the EU issued a recommendation document for candidacy, including 12 key priorities for institutional, political, economic, and social reform.This report, a collaborative effort between the analysts of the Central Asia and Caucasus Programme, the Europe Programme, and external expert Bako Kheladze, seeks to analyse and evaluate Georgia’s progress on EU’s accession priorities, drawing lessons and recommendations for its national strategy going forward.
