Where Germany Stands, Day 3 Of Ukrainian Invasion- 26 February 2022 (22:16 GMT+2)

Following days of reports regarding Germany’s harsh stance on several important points, it seems like the tide has changed. First, Germany, among other EU nations, has been blocking Russia’s ban from the SWIFT banking service. At the same time, she has been blocking her allies from offering support to Ukraine in terms of equipment and ammunition, citing her own policy to avoid unnecessary bloodshed. Meanwhile the country pledged 5000 helmets to contribute to Ukrainian defence, a move that has led to fury and ridicule.

Now, on the third day of the Russian offensive, it appears that Germany’s stance has shifted. According to reports Chancellor Scholtz has agreed to ban Russia from SWIFT. He has also promised 1000 anti-tack weapons and 500 stinger missiles, which will be delivered immediately. The Netherlands will also be contributing 400 grenade launchers and Estonia is to send 9 Howitzer artillery guns, both of which were being blocked by Germany. Additionally, 14 armoured vehicles and 10000 tonnes of fuel will be delivered. What has triggered this shift can only be speculated, however, Poland, among others, has been heavily lobbying Germany in the past few days.
