Between Promises and Power Play: MENA’s Future under a new US President

As the US prepares for one of the most anticipated elections in recent history, Foreign Policy within the Middle East has taken up a crucial role in the campaigns of both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

Harris’ platform indicates continued defence support for Israel, yet coupled with diplomatic outreach to Iran and a more profound humanitarian focus in Gaza. In contrast, Trump’s campaign promotes a hardline stance on Iran, traditionally strong support for Israel, and reduced U.S. military engagement abroad to focus on its Southern border, closely aligning with his previous policies.

A Harris administration would likely blend diplomacy with defence and human rights, pursuing cautious engagement in MENA, while a Trump presidency would favour assertive security alliances and heightened deterrence against Iran. Both approaches signal sustained U.S. involvement but with differing impacts on regional stability and U.S. influence.
