Syria After Assad: What Is Next?

The Syrian Opposition’s sudden and unexpected victory in the country’s decade-long conflict has upended all previous estimations about the country’s trajectory.

With a Hayy’at Tahrir al-Sham, a group previously linked to al-Qaeda, now in charge, the country will face an unpredictable path. Although Syria’s new rulers have sought to reassure the international community and minorities in their own territories, their exact actions remain to be seen.

In the interim, Syria, as well as other countries involved in Syria, will face a number of challenges, from repairing the country’s economy to preventing the country from becoming a hub of transnational terrorism.
