The Death of Hassan Nasrallah: A Geopolitical Earthquake

On 27 September 2024, Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut’s suburbs.

Nasrallah’s death, coming closely on the heels of the pager attacks on the group’s communication network, is a major blow to the image of invulnerability the group projected.

It is now clear that Nasrallah’s assassination, whether by design or opportunity, was the culmination of the latest escalation. Since Nasrallah’s death, Israel has continued its attacks in southern Lebanon, exploiting the political and communications disarray the group finds itself in.
